Greywolf Golf Course opened for play May 14, 1999 and quickly became a gem of the golfing scene. But with the stiff competition for the prestigious, 'Best New Canadian Golf Course Award', how did Greywolf come out on top?

Intrawest, the leading developer and operator of mountain resorts across North America and BMR golf, joint owners of the course, knew from early in the planing stages that Greywolf would be very special.

As construction progressed through the summers of 1997 and 1998, the splendor of the project became obvious and fortunately one didn't need credentials of course architect, Doug Carrick, to make that observation.

Challenges

Magnificence of the site aside though, there were plenty of challenges in constructing a golf course at the base of a ski resort in Canada's Purcell Mountains. Miles of drain pipe were installed to intercept the run-off from the ski area each spring, rock was blasted and tons of earth moved to help shape the comfortable features, a state of the art irrigation system was designed and built to maintain constant water pressure over 400+ feet of elevation change, fencing was put up to help stabilize slopes and prevent erosion, and hundreds of truckloads of sand, gravel, soil and other custom materials were brought in over great distances. The final result of these meticulous efforts pleasantly surprised everyone involved.

Not only is Greywolf special as was initially planned, it is spectacular, inspirational, dramatic and breathtaking. Even more amazing is that these are the thoughts of the people here every day that built the course- imagine seeing and playing it for the first time!
